Heart Health Blood Tests

Heart health blood tests measure the markers that drive cardiovascular risk: the standard lipid profile, apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and lipoprotein(a), inflammation markers such as hs-CRP, and, in the fuller panels, homocysteine and Lp-PLA2. Together they show more than a cholesterol number alone.

Blood London offers three heart health panels at Harley Street. Essential pairs a lipid profile with ApoB and Lp(a), the two markers many cardiologists now ask for first. Advanced adds ApoA1 and Lp-PLA2. Complete adds homocysteine and further metabolic markers for the most detailed risk picture.

Each panel has a fixed price covering the laboratory work and a structured report, with the £50 phlebotomy fee added in the cart. Results are sent by email and a doctor review is available as an optional extra.

Why measure ApoB and Lp(a) as well as cholesterol?

ApoB counts the particles that carry cholesterol into artery walls and tracks risk more closely than LDL cholesterol alone. Lp(a) is largely inherited and is not shown on a standard cholesterol test, so it is worth measuring at least once.

Do I need to fast for a heart health blood test?

A 8 to 12 hour fast, water only, gives the most reliable triglyceride result. If you cannot fast, the other markers are still valid; tell the clinic when you attend.

What happens if my results are high?

Your report will flag results outside the reference range. A doctor review is available as an optional extra, and you can take the report to your GP or a cardiologist to discuss treatment.
