Doctors order this panel for men with low libido, erection problems, tiredness or loss of muscle, where a hormone cause is being considered.
It is also used to check testosterone before or during treatment, with PSA included because prostate health is monitored alongside testosterone.
Book a morning sample before 10:00, when testosterone is highest. Fasting is preferred.
A low testosterone result is normally repeated on a second morning sample before any treatment decision.
Blood markers do not assess every hormonal, vascular, psychological or medication-related cause of symptoms, so results are best read by a doctor alongside your history.

Testosterone is usually highest in the morning, which is why this panel is booked as a morning sample before 10:00. Illness, poor sleep, hard exercise and some medicines can also lower a single reading.
One low result is not enough on its own to diagnose low testosterone or to decide on treatment. Doctors usually repeat the test on a second morning sample and look at your symptoms, SHBG, free testosterone and other hormones before reaching a view.
