Hormone and fertility blood tests measure the hormones that control periods, ovulation, libido, energy and fertility: FSH, LH, oestradiol, progesterone, testosterone, SHBG, prolactin, AMH and thyroid function, with insulin and HbA1c where PCOS is a question. Which markers matter depends on the question you are asking, so the panels are built around common questions rather than a single list.
Blood London offers four hormone panels at Harley Street. Female Hormone covers the core cycle hormones for irregular or heavy periods, perimenopause symptoms and general hormone checks. Testosterone covers male hormone health with PSA. Fertility centres on AMH and ovarian reserve. PCOS combines hormones with insulin and HbA1c, because PCOS is as much a metabolic condition as a hormonal one.
Each panel has a fixed price covering the laboratory work and a structured report, with the £50 phlebotomy fee added in the cart. Results are sent by email and a doctor review is available as an optional extra.
For FSH, LH and oestradiol, day 2 to 5 of your cycle gives the most useful baseline. Progesterone is measured around day 21 of a 28 day cycle to confirm ovulation. If your periods are irregular or absent, test on any day and note the date of your last period.
In the morning, ideally between 7am and 10am, when testosterone is at its highest. A low result is normally repeated on a second morning before any treatment decision.
AMH estimates ovarian reserve, meaning how many eggs remain. It does not measure egg quality or predict natural conception on its own, but it is useful for fertility planning and IVF.
