Complexed PSA measures the fraction of prostate specific antigen that is bound to proteins in the blood. It is used alongside total PSA to help assess prostate health in men with urinary symptoms, a family history of prostate cancer, or a previous raised PSA. The test costs £75 plus the £50 phlebotomy fee, and results are usually available in 3 days.
Avoid ejaculation and vigorous exercise, including cycling, for 48 hours before the sample, and tell the clinic if you have a urine infection or have had a prostate examination in the last week, because all of these can raise PSA.
